Last night I discovered that my precious Amazon Kindle (3rd generation) which has been with me for at least a year — and that after I claimed warranty for the first unit I had from the company — has broken its screen display again. Much like what I had faced before with the first unit that I had, the screensaver is frozen and no amount of resetting the device or powering it up will solve the issue. So I told the vendor I bought it from about it and he suggested that I might as well ditch it and get a new one. I might get a new unit since I was right in the middle of Clash of Kings and I don’t want to leave it, but I am unwilling to ditch my faithful e-book reader. So I looked around and I found out that the screen has been successfully repaired before by individual people, as in the video above. Continue reading Amazon Kindle screen repair
I am very happy with my current Amazon Kindle 3 (renamed to Kindle Keyboard after Amazon released several new e-book readers with different tech) but since its technology is quite dated now, I do want to get something new to keep up with current times. Originally I was thinking of getting the Kindle Paperwhite but after I saw this excellent video review comparing the Paperwhite to the Kobo Glo (see the video above), I end up still mulling over the matter. However, I think that I am leaning towards the idea of getting the Kobo Glo since the backlight of the device is much brighter than the Kindle Paperwhite (apart from the fact that I still don’t own a device that can read ePub files). The pricing could be an issue though, so I will have to rethink this over before I make my final decision.
The Big Bad Wolf Books sale is back! Last year I went to the event with a friend where it was held at MAEPS, Serdang. This year, they are holding it at the Mines Convention Center, which is actually nearer this time as it is only around 5 – 10 minutes from where I am currently staying.
They claim that there will be 3 million books available at ridiculously high discounts….that is certainly a significant increase from last year’s event which stood at around a million books. I bought a hand-trolley specifically for this event, because last year I didn’t came prepared and ended up having to carry around large boxes of books, books and more books! It was tiring too but I enjoyed myself a lot. However, this time I am more prepared and will be bringing the hand-trolley so that I can increase my book-carrying capacity.
See you at the Mines Convention Center for the event!

After coming to know of this Islamic Book Fair 2012 in Putrajaya which ends tomorrow, I’ve decided that I might drop by just to take a peek. That is, assuming if I have the time to do so. I have been extremely busy these days, so much so that I do not even have the time to update this blog! In any case, my personal library could certainly make do with a few new titles for the year 2012. If you are in or around the area, I would most certainly encourage you to go and have a look.
